The Kite of Hope & Dreams

The Kite of Hope & Dreams was a community art project that we designed for the Positively Pittsford event held on Saturday, June 11, 2011. It stands about 6 feet tall and is about 3 feet wide. We used 2x2 furring strips for the vertical struts, black hardware cloth for the grid structure and rope for the braided tail. The fabric of the kite is created by weaving fabric, feathers, ribbon and other material into the grid. Hopes, dreams, wishes and other sentiments were written on strips of paper and braided into the kite tail.

We have a steady stream of kids and parents all day, so the kite had lots of interaction. We captured many wishes.
